Light Aircraft Crash
On Friday 4th September 2009 the Horsley Park Brigade was called to an Aircraft Crash at Western Sydney Regional Park off Cowpasture Rd, Abbotsbury.
On arrival crews found a 2 seater light aircraft had made an emergency landing in the open grasslands of the park after experiencing engine troubles after takeoff from nearby Bankstown Airport.
The pilot the only occupant escaped with minor injuries, and was treated by Ambulance, the Horsley Park crew provided fire protection with hoselines and foam and also isolated the Aircraft batteries and fuel switches. Crews remained onscene for a number of hours following until the plane was salvaged due to the amount of Aviation Fuel being held and comprise to the structural integrity of the Aircraft and its fuel tanks.
