Bird Trapped in Tree
On Saturday 3 May 2008, the Brigade was notified of a call to a Bird Stuck in a tree.
The Brigade turned out its Category 1 Appliance and arrived onsite to find a Red Tailed Black Cockatoo had escaped a rehabilitation facility and was now perched 30m up a tree and had not moved for three days.
The crews attempted to coax the bird out of the tree with hose lines to no avail and the ladder wouldn't reach. Besides cutting down the large eucalypt tree and possibly causing more harm to the bird, the NSWFB were called upon with their Hydraulic Ladder Platform capable of reaching 37m high.
Once in place the Ladder Platform (aka Bronto) was able to successfully manoeuvre through the canopy of the tree and recover the bird.
